The Biggest Reason I Love Sundays

Happy Birthday Kevin

Twenty-eight years ago this son was welcomed to our family.  We were all excited to have him join us.  I was so anxious to know who was coming that I paid extra for an ultra sound.  I wanted to know if it was a boy or girl joining us.  My mom didn't believe the ultra sound or the doctor and thought Kevin was going to be a girl and so she made him a pink blanket and even gave it to us after he was born.  I put it over him to bring him home and never used it again.  I thought I had saved it for him to use with his kids but can't find it now. Funny, Funny Grandma Ruthie!

Kevin is such a good kid.  Kevin has a tender heart but is tough on the outside.  He's still a momma's boy and will come talk to me when he has troubles.  Kevin is such a wonderful daddy.  He's a Mr. Mom  a lot of the time since he get off work earlier than Julie and is really good with his girls.  Kevin has always loved kids and so this hasn't surprised me but has made me smile even bigger.  I wouldn't have thought that he would be so talented in the "cooking department" though.  He makes dinners and he makes his girls their birthday cakes and always does a super job at it.  I'm proud of my cute son and love that I'm his mommy!

Saturday

Shower for Courtnie

Courtnie is going to marry Taylor in October and so Mindy and I thought it would be a great idea to shower her with gifts for this wonderful event. (we are her visiting teachers)  Courtnie is such a cute girl and such a spiritual giant.  I love listening to her speak in church....she doesn't read her talk and is very prepared.  (even before her mission she was like that)  Courtnie is kind and forgiving.  She is such a good example of being happy and successful even while being tried.  I sure love Courtnie and I'm so excited for her to marry her cute friend, Taylor.

Jodi and Courtnie weren't sure who to invite and so Mindy and I took care of it....we pretty much invited everyone that comes to church that might know her.  Mindy made some cute invites and we each delivered them around the ward.  Mindy also brought cute jars full of candy to share with everyone.  I think it made the counter look cute.  I just worried about cleaning my house and having it ready.  Mindy and I both made a big pan of brownies and brought ice cream.  I figured that way we'd each have some for our families afterwards.
I was pleased with the love and support Courtnie got.   We have such a kind ward!

***Larry and I got to go help in the Laundry Room of the Temple after the shower.  Alexi (my niece) works there and it was quite enjoyable helping out.  Larry was amazed at how much laundry is done and how precise everything is folded and hung up.  It's all very orderly and a super huge job!  It was a great experience for sure.

I remember folding aprons once in the Original Ogden Temple and I'm thinking that when I showed up at the temple one day I was just asked to go down and help.  I know I wasn't there long and I can only remember folding aprons.

Cute Coach and Team

I love watching my son's coach their kids.  Justin is coaching Parker this year.  Parker refers to Justin as Coach now. ☺  My heart about explodes as I see how good my kids parent and how cute my grands are.

Friday

Hot Diggity Dog

I had mentioned to Carla that I hadn't had a s'more all summer.  I haven't even been by a camp fire.  So, she invited my family over for hot dogs and s'mores.  It was a little early to start a fire when we got there...mainly because the sun was bright and it was hot.  We all laughed about being invited over for hot dogs as we sat inside at their table.  I think Roger was embarrassed but we reassured him that he shouldn't be because our family loves hot dogs no matter how they are cooked.  I think Roger likes being around Larry and our boys because then he can joke around like guys do.  Larry told me how much he enjoys being around Carla and Roger.  They are just good people and so thoughtful.

We did go out after cleaning up dinner and we had s'mores.  There's something about s'mores and summertime.....they just go together.  I have bought everything for s'mores a few times this summer but this was my first and only s'more.  It was so yummy.  It was fun spending the evening with Carla and Roger.  We enjoyed their gorgeous home and back yard.  My kids even had a really good time.  Kimi wouldn't sit by the fire because she had just washed her hair and didn't want it to smell like fire so she sat away from us and kept the mosquito's over by her.

Food 4 Thought Friday ~ This week's questions:

 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

 "BUSINESS AS USUAL"
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
Breakfast ~ What businesses do you "keep in business"?   Well probably a few restaurants around here...I enjoy my lunch dates with friends.  Walmart...it's my go to store when I need ink for computer, food, toys for grands, and usually when I need them all at once.  I use to really love Jorgensen Books before they went out of business (I guess I wasn't enough to keep it open)  I also frequent Ben Franklin craft store but that was when I crafted more...now I'm trying to simplify, so I don't craft like I use to. Are there any businesses you avoid or refuse to patronize?  I don't like expensive stores and avoid them

Lunch ~ Have you ever had a home based business or worked at one?  If so, what or where? When I got married I tried a few different Home Party businesses and really enjoyed them. Princess Crystal (not my favorite because it is such a luxury and not appealing to everyone) Lunds Lite Candles (my favorite...they had new lines twice a year and they were cute decorations for your home) Rubber Stamps, and Dorling Kindersley Books.  I enjoyed getting these items for cost and it was fun getting out of the house in the evenings as well.  I was pretty good at selling things too but I thinks it's because I thought the things I sold were wonderful.

Dinner ~ What type of show business have you participated in? I got into the Jay Leno show once and got my picture taken with him on stage before his show.  When Jared got lost we were on the news for quite sometime.  I participated in Davaleen's 48 hour film festival project and was actually on the big screen for about 5 minutes ☺
Midnight Snack ~ Which phrase (or phrases) most resembles your week?  Taking care of business, none of your business, get down to business, that's show business, back in business, monkey business, mixing business with pleasure, like nobodies business, strictly business, business as usual? Probably taking care of business and monkey business.  I worked a lot on my blog books this week and played a few times with a few friends who took me to lunch for my birthday.  I also helped with a few of my grands and went and kissed on our new grand.  I even crocheted around a  few burp clothes.
Recipe of the Week ~ (instead of your recipe for life what is it just for the week?)
Don't Over Think Things!  I have over thought a lot this week concerning my daughter and new grand....do I call? do I go over? should I be...? what's too much?  what's not enough?  Thanks to my cute daughter in law I think I got my answers to those questions.  Natalie had some great advice and didn't make me feel dumb for expressing my thoughts and concerns to her.  You'd think I would have it down since this is my 9th grand but I don't...

Thursday

Friendship....one of the best gifts!

I'm not going to lie....this week has been fun going to lunch with more of my friends to celebrate my birthday.  I feel very loved and spoiled.  I told Carla that she couldn't take me but she is persistent and talked me into it.  I wanted to go to lunch with her but didn't want her paying because she has done so much already but she won.  It was nice seeing my friend again since it's been a few weeks.  We both have new grand sons (Carla's is 2 days older) and we have both missed each other.  It's funny how you get attached to people to get to see often.  I'm glad that Carla and I see each other a few times a week because she's such a good person.  I admire her "push" and enthusiasm for things.  She decided to make a quilt a few months ago and has made over 30 now.  I saw a few that she got back from the lady that does machine quilting and oh my they are beautiful.  She reminds me of a Christmas Elf.  I'm so proud of her and all that she is accomplishing.  This girl is amazing and makes me want to be better and improve myself.  I'm so thankful for such good friends that are truly gifts from God.

Wednesday

Lucky Me

I didn't have to cook today which always makes me happy.  There was plenty of leftover meatloaf for the kids to have while Larry and I met the Monson's for dinner at LaFerrovia.  We haven't visited with them for over a year and so we had some catching up to do.  We stayed in the restaurant until they needed to clean up our table.  The rest of the place was clean.  We stood outside and visited some more and even watched the employee's leave.  They left smiling as they saw us still visiting.  We love Tanna and Eric and their cute family.  I'm glad that Eric and Larry set this up....we needed each other tonight.  I love our friends and the great examples they are.

Life is better when you have Good People surrounding you.

There's a Monkey in the Tree

Happy Birthday to Me....again

I'm thinking the waitress at Applebee's might think that I am taking advantage of their free birthday sundaes. ☺  Kathy and I went there today and she told them that it was my birthday but I quickly said "we are celebrating my birthday".  Not everyone knows that I kind of celebrate my birthday all year until another one comes along.

Kathy makes me laugh and I have missed her this summer.  We've both been so busy and even though Kathy called me before my birthday to try to set up a lunch date with with between both our schedules this was as soon as we could make work.  I smiled really big when Kathy picked me up and told me that she had thought about inviting another friend to join us but didn't want to share me.  She said she was being selfish but I loved it and I enjoyed our one on one time. (selfish, selfish Kathy...haha)  Kathy always finds the funniest cards that seriously make me laugh out loud.  One time she even drew me a card in church because she had forgot...that also made me laugh.  This year the card said: Remember, You're not old if you can still touch you toes....(inside) using your boobs doesn't count."   Kathy said it wasn't that funny but to me it was hilarious. ☺  Being with Kathy is always so much fun...I'm not sure why we don't hang out more. (because we both stay pretty busy that's why).  I'm so thankful for this friend...she has always been so good to me and for me!

Tuesday

The Kid is Back in School

Sending this kid back to School isn't as exciting for me this year.  I guess it's because my kids have got up early all summer to go to work.  There wasn't fighting, being bored or many messes which are usually the reasons that getting them back in school is nice.  Jared doesn't love school and I think he would prefer getting up and going to work than going to school and so we are counting down.  Just two more years...just two more years.
It's nice having older kids that get themselves up and ready.  I like that they are responsible.  Last year Kimi got herself up and then woke up Jared.  All summer though Jared set his alarm and got up when he needed to and plans on doing it this year for school.  Yeah!!!  Jared even had his backpack filled and ready to go without asking me anything about it.  He found a backpack in the lost and found during track and was told that he could have it because it was going to be thrown away anyway.  I'm glad my kids don't mind hand me downs or seconds....so nice!

I love my baby and have enjoyed watching him grow up.  I look forward to this year and I hope that he will have fun and learn the things he should.  Looking at these pictures make me smile....my heart isn't sad that Jared is growing up but is very happy because the journey has been good. (it will be sad in a few years when I'm not taking pictures though I'm sure.  However, like today I will just ask my kids to send me the grands first day of school pictures...those make me smile too)

Monday

Priesthood Blessings

I'm so thankful for the Priesthood of God.  I'm so thankful that my hubby and son's are worthy to act in God's name and give our families blessings.  Before Trichelle went to the hospital to have little Behrenger she came down and asked her dad for a Priesthood Blessing.  TJ and the kids were there as well and we all listened to the wonderful words and felt the spirit.  Trichelle was able to deliver her sweet baby easily and she knows it was because of the blessing....TJ knows it too. (she didn't have a blessing before delivering Zaden and there was a huge difference)  At the time we asked Zaden if he needed a blessing and he said: "Yes, but not right now."

We decided to go see Larry's mom tonight and asked her if she would like us to take her to Trichelle's so she could meet Behrenger. I was glad she wanted to because I wanted to see him again too. (they change so much from day to day for awhile) Zaden had just been asking Trichelle to call his grandpa because he wanted a blessing before going to school.  Larry gave Zaden and Jared blessings tonight for this coming school year.  In Zaden's blessing he was blessed that he would have fun and at that point Zaden laughed out loud but then was quiet for the rest of his blessing....the kid was paying attention. ☺  I'm so thankful for all blessings and love that the kids are given them when they start school each year. (a fabulous tradition)

I looked up a little more information on Priesthood blessings and want to share. ☺

In a priesthood blessing a servant of the Lord exercises the priesthood, as moved upon by the Holy Ghost, to call upon the powers of heaven for the benefit of the person being blessed.  A Priesthood blessing is a conferral of power over spiritual things.  Though it cannot be touched or weighed, it is of great significance in helping us overcome obstacles on the path to eternal life.

It is a very sacred responsibility for a Melchizedek Priesthood holder to speak for the Lord in giving a priesthood blessing.   The Lord has told us, "My word...shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same." (D&C 1:38) If the priesthood holder speaks as he is moved upon by the Holy Ghost, his words are "the will of the Lord, the mind of the Lord, the word of the Lord, and the voice of the Lord" (D&C 68:4)

I'm so thankful we are blessed with the Priesthood of God in our Church.  It is real and powerful!

Back to School Night

Last week Karleen asked me if I could help at Hooper Elementary's Back to School Night.  I thought it was a wonderful idea that she was having us "older" moms help out.  I loved serving in the PTA and helping out tonight was really fun for me.  I loved seeing all the kids and their excitement.  I really loved seeing my cute grands!

I told Karleen that I would love to help out more throughout this coming year.  I think I am going to contact Freedom Elementary and let them know that I would like to help them out as well since I have three other cute grands going there this year.

The lunch room was so cute last night.  I think I might copy the fun decorations for our Opening Social with the special needs group. (I might even borrow some of these)  When I walked in I couldn't help but smile because it was so cheery and fun.  The PTA group this year are pretty awesome!

Sunday

Happy Birthday to My Sweet Daughter

It's my girls birthday today! The child that made me a mommy for the very first time.  I love Trichelle so much.  Trichelle is a sensitive and kind person.  She is smart and fun.  She's a wonderful daughter and I'm so glad that she's mine.  I admire this girl of mine.  I'm proud of all that she has accomplished.  I think that Trichelle has one of the purest souls....she has taught me so much about love and even unconditional love.  I'm so thankful for Trichelle!
Larry and I went up to the Hospital with a little gift and a few cards.  The card from the kids was so funny and had a little baby that bounced up and down on it making "tooting" noises.  It has made us laugh for months since Kimleighel chose it for her.  It also made Trichelle laugh out loud today.

Larry and I went to Braxton's ward after and listened to him and Kelsi speak on families. They did a great job and again I had a moment of joy rush through me.  I really have been blessed with wonderful kids. (including the ones joining us)

We enjoyed Justin's little family at dinner.  I love Sundays because the kids come home and our family is together.

Saturday

Dinner with the Winters

We have a hard time getting together with these two.  Sue text me last week to see if we could go out with them.  We were busy the night she asked and so I told her when we were available which was Tuesday or Wednesday.  I guess those days weren't good for them and she asked about Saturday.  We were planning on going to Kamryn's cheer recital and told them that we could about 7:00 since the recital was at 5:00.  We were on our way to the recital when Sue called to see if there was anyway we could meet earlier.  While I was talking to her Kevin tried calling and when I didn't answer he called Larry.  We were informed that the recital was actually at 7:00 and they had misunderstood.  Well....that made it possible to go with Alan and Sue earlier but then we weren't sure about Kam's recital  We took the tickets over to Kevin so that someone else could use them.  (Gramps ended up going) Maybe that wasn't the right choice but at the time we felt it was.  Julie and Kevin knew we had planned around the recital when we thought it was at 5:00 and had we known it was really at 7:00 earlier we would have planned to go even earlier with the Winters.  Oh well....we know we aren't going to make everything all the time and we will just do our best and not beat ourselves up about it when we miss.

It was fun visiting with Alan and Sue as always.  We always enjoy each others company.  I think we are going to be planning a little get away with them again soon.  Maybe even a trip to Captain George's Seafood Buffet in Virginia unless Larry can sway them to going to San Francisco for fresh seafood instead.  I enjoy hearing about their kids and their successes.  They have a few Doctors in the family and a few pharmacy guys doing different things.  Their kids are all doing really good and I'm sure that is because  Alan and Sue spent so much time with them.  They are great parents.  I sure do love these two and I'm glad that we were able to spend a few hours with them.

Meeting Baby Behrenger

I had the privilege of gathering Ivy and Zaden up from their dads and taking them to meet their new baby brother.  The kids were so excited and their dads were so kind to let us take some of their time.  It took me an hour and a half to get them picked up and to the hospital.  I was so glad that I got to see and experience the joy when this cute family were together.  Trichelle got a leak and had to keep wiping her eyes and cheeks.  I know she just felt so blessed.  TJ was all smiles and Zaden found a nice spot on TJ's lap while they waited for Great Grandma Ruthie to finish holding their brother.  She was good and finished up quickly so Ivy and Zaden could have a turn.  Ivy was first since she is the big sister and more experienced.  I loved watching TJ help them and instruct them on how to hold his head.  The love and pride was oozing from TJ in a glorious way.  What a cute, happy little family....babies add so much!
I don't think Ivy cares now that Behrenger is another little brother even though she had been hoping for a sister.  Behrenger is perfect in every way.  I kissed his little head and it's so soft.  His complexion was perfect...no blemishes, scratches or red spots. (those showed up later when his prefect skin was exposed to our air)  I love every single part of him....he's just so cute.
It was my turn to hold him when Ivy and Zaden were through.  Oh how I love holding little ones and looking at every delicate feature.  Life really is such a miracle.  Jared was very patient and before Larry and Kimi arrived (they went to the other grands soccer games before coming up) I handed him little Behrenger to love on.  I love watching my kids with little ones.  They all love them so much and are super good with babies and little kids.  My heart was one Happy Heart Today....So Much Happiness! I probably stayed longer than I should of.  I know Trichelle was tired and told her to rest but I knew for her to rest we needed to leave.  I'm so happy for Trichelle, TJ and their little family.  Little Behrenger is truly a blessing from God.

Behrenger

Baby Behrenger has arrived!  Trichelle labored all day on Friday and knew that it was real and that we would be meeting this little guy soon.  I got a text about 8:00 pm saying they were headed to the hospital.  I promised them I wouldn't bug them since there were plenty of other people doing that. haha  Around 10:00 pm I got a text with a picture of their room and other information on it.  That was nice to know that they were staying and things were good.  Around 2:00 am I got a text with a picture of this cute guy and his weight.  TJ said he looked at the clock when he heard Behrenger and it was 1:38 but the nurses put down 1:40....close enough.  Behrenger weighed 8 lbs-8 oz and was 21 inches long.  He was right on time and perfect as could be.  When Trichelle first figured her due date she thought he would be due on her birthday which is the 23rd.  The doctor did the math and measurements and said the 21st and he came early on the 22nd!  I was teasing Trichelle last week that he was either a stinker (stubborn) or super mellow and laid back...not in a hurry.  Cindee said he was just being obedient...I like that best.  I hope Behrenger will be an obedient child and cause a ripple of wonderful things for his family.  He is such a blessing and so loved already.

Friday

Happy Birthday to Rich and I

I love Julie and Kevin's little tradition of taking their parents to dinner for our Birthdays.  This time we were celebrating Rich and I.  I think our kids are pretty wonderful and very, very thoughtful for doing this twice a year.  I am very grateful for their generosity and kindness.  They say that it's because they are thankful for all that we do for them.  I really enjoy visiting with Rich and Lynette too.  I love the families that my kids have married into...they are all wonderful and we enjoy spending time with them.  I just feel so thankful for families and all the extensions of families.

(I think the photo bomber in the back is hilarious.  The waitress was smiling and so we knew he bombed us.  I asked him his name since but can't remember now...it made me laugh)

Food 4 Thought Friday ~ This week's questions:
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Breakfast~
Babies always make me smile.  I have always loved little ones.  I love how fresh and pure they are...so dependent and heavenly.

Lunch~
Happiness is not a mistake or coincident.  Happiness comes from within and is a choice we get to make every day throughout the day.

Dinner~
My Testimony of everything.  I've been challenged a time or two on my beliefs and my testimony but it's mine and no one can take it from me.  (I'm thankful for the challenges because they have made me realize that my testimony is mine and not borrowed anymore)

Midnight Snack~ (two for one)
I'm thankful I don't have cancer and I hope and pray that I never do.
That we are all going to make them....that's part of this life and we shouldn't judge anyone for the mistakes that they make.

Recipe of the Week ~ (instead of your recipe for life what is it just for the week?)
There are things in this life worth waiting for.  We often want to rush them or hurry them along but the wait will be worth it.

Thursday

waiting and catching up

I don't go to the doctor often but my hands are driving me crazy.  For many months now they have been itching and cracking and peeling.  I wake up at night scratching my hands....it's become real annoying.  I finally broke and went to the doctor last week.  He assumes it's eczema and prescribed me some ointment.  I have been treating it like I would eczema and it still hurts and doesn't completely leave.  The ointment helped and these pictures are of my hands looking better...they still have dry itchy spots...like callouses.  I hope this is not permanent like my thin skin that turns purple when my capillaries break...I guess these are little reminders of how many birthdays I have celebrated. ☺
This week and last have been a waiting game for little boy (Behrenger) to be born.  Poor Trichelle has gone longer this time and is ready.  She's already been off work for two weeks of her six weeks maternity leave and still no baby.  Trichelle asked Larry for a blessing last night...hopefully little man comes soon.

Once in awhile we get snakes and I'm just glad they were out side....last summer we found two in our house.  TJ freaked Kimi out with a piece of rubber that was in the garage.  Kimi was sure it was the snake and locked TJ out of the house.
There has been a fire in California and our sky's are hazy from it.  The moon and sun are looking very cool because of it.  The pictures I took were okay but it was much prettier than I could capture.
My grands have come and gone this week and cute little Jordy likes my stair stand.  She is such a cutie and likes coming over now.  She reaches for me over Kamryn now which makes my heart about explode.  I'm so happy that they are staying at Gramps while their house is being built.  It's fun seeing them throughout the week.
Larry had to run to Bear Lake again to try to fix Vicky's boiler so me and the kids joined him.  Dirk and Robin were there this week at their cabin.  While Larry and Dirk went to Vicky's me and the kids visited with Robin and her daughter and grands.  We will be going up again because the problem wasn't fixed and Larry is still trying to figure out what is wrong. darn it!
Since my days haven't been super busy this week I have been trying to catch up on my blog books.  These take time and I hope they will be enjoyed for many years after I am gone.  Julene and I made a book for each member of Buffey's family with all the love that was shared on facebook through sweet words and pictures.  It turned out great...we added empty pages so they could add their memories to their books.  I love my books and hope that my posterity will as well.
I went with Kimleighel to get her hair colored yesterday.  She has been wanting "Blue" hair for a few months now.  I'm glad she listened to my advice and didn't color just the ends  like she had wanted at first.  She likes long hair and I told her that bleaching it so they could color it could damage her hair and she might need to cut it later.  Brook (who did it) said I was right and so the blue was weaved in and isn't so bold but still blue which made my girl happy.

Oh and I'm officially the New President for the Young Women in the SNAP program.  I was set apart last week and I'm super excited.  I'm reading a Memoir right now called Bloom by Kelle Hampton about her experience of mothering a little one with down syndrome.  She's honest and real.  I loved reading how about six months after her little was born she attended a Seminar for Down Syndrome families. After sharing her true feelings with them all when she received an award for sharing her story so openly on her blog she had a few men with down syndrome approach her.  One expressed to her how she had touched his heart...the other felt her sadness and wanted to comfort her.  Later she expressed how "Lucky" she was for her experience to mother such a special child and interact with the special people that would now be a part of her life.  That's how I feel too...I feel so LUCKY to get to serve the Special Needs in our area.  I feel closer to Heaven when I am with them because they have such strong spirits and are truly a Gift from God.

Monday

Say Hi and Enjoy some Pie

Susan is in her new home and so she decided to have some friends over to say Hi and have some pie.  She told us that Matt had put that suggestion in her ear and she followed it. (she usually does follow Matt and his suggestions whether she wants to or not)  I love Susan's new home and have even thought that I wouldn't mind down sizing like she has in a few years.  I think it's perfect for her at this time in her life.

Driving by her old home is hard to do....it's just not her anymore.  There are wood blinds in all the windows and the yard isn't kept up and every day when I drive by I am reminded that she is gone.  Even when she was on her mission her home was kept up and was welcoming the way it was when she was there.  I'm just glad that Susan isn't too far away and that I can still stop by if I want.  I love this friend of mine.  She is so talented and full of life.  She has always been a great example to me and I cherish all our memories together.  I have served in Young Women's with her and we have gone on a lot of fun trips together.  Susan is Fun!  She will be a blessing to her new neighborhood and Ward and now even her Stake. (she was just called to be a counselor in the Stake RS)  Susan does everything good and more people are going to fall in love with her.  I love Susan! ♥
Tonight I found out that Matt reads my blog so this is for you Matt...your photography skills are awesome...exactly what I was hoping for.  I like how you are able to crop out people (Larry) before the picture is even taken.  You make me laugh...Thank You!

Are you the type to wake up before the sun has even risen? No....the sun usually beats me up.
Do you get uncomfortable when people stare at you? Of course I do....doesn't everyone?
Have you ever been admitted to the hospital for a long period of time? Nope...having babies and staying for a day or two is about as long as I've stayed in a hospital...except when Jared was born. Actually I was sent home after a few days but Jared was kept for 18 days so I'd go there every day.
