  • Which is worse, failing or never trying? Never trying.  Failing means you tried and teaches you things you wouldn't have learned otherwise.
  • If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do? I think we just get caught up in the ways we were taught and the things we have done.  We let life control us much of the time instead of taking control of life.  I think we do that because we are afraid and get comfortable where we are and what we know.  It's hard to take chances because we fear we might lose what we have...good or not.  We're kind of creatures of habit!

Friday

Every Good Thing Comes to an End

We did a lot of whale watching this week.  Every day we looked out our window and could spot these wonderful creatures as they moved through the water.  It seemed that every day new swim lessons were being taught.  One morning there were lots of tails being seen and used for swimming and not just the last part to enter back into the ocean.  Another day I saw lots of fins.  One day it was as if the whales were standing on their heads and the tails were coming out and going back down. Each day we saw whales breach and blow their spouts.  It was truly my favorite thing.  I love seeing the whales.  The binoculars Larry bought last year were awesome and made everything better and so close.  Larry would laugh as I'd say "oh my gosh...oh my gosh".  I think he enjoyed watching me watch the whales.

It was the perfect time of year to go. The whales were marvelous and the temperatures were perfect.  There wasn't any humidity this time and so my hair wasn't a fuzzy mess ever.  I think this is the first time ever that we haven't experienced humidity in Hawaii and it was fabulous.

Larry and I took Roger and Carla to the airport.  They were leaving about the same time as they arrived and so were we.  (them around 2 and us 9)  We had the extra time this side of the trip.  We didn't choose to ride the bus though...since we still had the rental car.  We did decide to wander the little strip mall they have and to also go to a show.  Cinderella was just released and the theater was close and so we went to it.  I loved the show and I know Larry enjoyed it too.  It was a great way to spend a few hours. I love the quote: "Have Courage and Be Kind.  Where there is Kindness there is Goodness and where there is Goodness there is Magic."

I'm not crazy about the late flight but will admit it wasn't bad.  I took a Tylenol pm and I guess it helped me sleep better than I thought because before I realized it the pilot was announcing our landing.
I love vacationing with Larry.  I'm glad he likes going and works hard so we can.  I'm glad our kids are responsible and don't mind us leaving them once in awhile.  I'm so thankful for each of my kids and grands. I think of them often while I am away and things are quiet and still.  They are my favorites!
I love the Hawaiian Motto...."Hang Loose".  No matter what happens in life we have a choice.  We can let things bother us and make us sad and pull us down or we can look for the bright side of those same things and hang loose. Worrying and stressing about things doesn't do any good and won't change anything except ourselves.  We all have things come are way that aren't pleasant and wonderful but while those things come we are still surrounded by so much good....so many blessings.  It's okay to focus on the blessing and be happy even when things aren't completely wonderful.

Hang Loose and have a wonderful, marvelous, fantastic day!

MY ANSWERS

Breakfast ~ Post a photo of what you see in front of you at this moment....(if you're starring at a computer screen, then post something in the room.)
I am answering this a day late but answering as if it were Friday.  This is what I saw in front of me a lot this week. I was in Kauai in Princeville at the Shearwater Resort.  I stood on the balcony of our condo for long periods of times because there were whales out there and they were having swimming lessons.  Each day we saw something new.  Tail fins one day, side fins another, breaching, back, spouts.....it was just so exciting!

Lunch ~ What is something you must get done today?  What is something you would like to get done today?  I need to get packed because it is time to check out of paradise.  I would prefer having another day to watch whales and have the guys try again to go fishing.  They scheduled a fishing excursion on Tues and it got cancelled and so they set it for Thurs and it also was cancelled. I felt bad for Larry and Roger.

Dinner ~ Name something that disappointed you this week.  Name something that made you happy or excited.  Something happened to my hip or maybe even a muscle by my hip and leg the day we left for Hawaii.  It really hurt and was hard to lift the first few days.  It even hurt to sleep and I was unable to move easily so that was really disappointing.  It lasted a few days off and on but didn't really stop me from enjoying anything we did.  The most exciting thing for me this week was watching the whales.  I love that so much.  Zip-lining was also very exciting and this whole entire week was full of HAPPY!

Midnight Snack ~ List five to ten of your "go to" meals that you serve most frequently.  Spaghetti, Chicken Roll Ups, Roast and potatoes, Taco's, Breakfast Burrito's for dinner, Grilled Chicken, Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup, Shepherds Pie, Pepperoni Sandwiches, Lasagna.

Recipe of the Week ~ (instead of your recipe for life what is it for just this week?)  Don't Worry....Be Happy!  This week my internet on my phone wasn't working and I worked really hard at not letting it get to me.  I would get frustrated and then remind myself to not worry...but be happy.  (being frustrated wasn't going to change anything but my happiness right then) ☺

Thursday

a day to relax

Larry and Roger left for their fishing trip and Carla and I went to the pool.  After a few hours I decided I'd better get out of the sun so I didn't burn and went to the room to read.  I noticed I had just missed a call from Larry.  I called him back and he told me that the fishing trip was cancelled again.  This time there had been an accident and the road were backed up.  There is only one road around the island so if there is a wreck it isn't good for anyone.  The guys were bummed and I felt bad for them.  They were headed back.  Carla stayed at the pool...she really likes sun bathing.  The guys were back in no time and Roger and Larry joined Carla in the Hot Tub.  I went to the Lobby and used the WiFi.
We decided to go out for a nice dinner and ending up choosing the Bistro at the Lighthouse.  It was good and we all enjoyed it.  We walked around a few shops before the Bistro opened and again found a "Kodak Moment".
The week was coming to an end and we were wishing it wouldn't.  This week was so fun and relaxing.  We had some great conversations and had really enjoyed each other.  I am really glad that Carla and Roger are so spontaneous and were able to come with us.  It worked out wonderfully and I think we will be doing more travels together.  Carla and Roger are easy going like us and so everything went smooth and easy.  Life is Good!

Wednesday

Zip Lining

The only thing we scheduled to do was a Zip-line Excursion.  (oh and the fishing trip that never happened)  Larry and I have done this zip line before and knew it was a good one...besides it was right next to where we were staying.

We had a fun group that we went with (mostly girls) A group with four sisters came.  One sister was married and her husband was there.  There were also two more sisters and us.  It was fun.  Carla was leery right at first but only of her ability.  Once she knew she had nothing to worry about she loved it.  We all loved it!  Roger was the camera man and hasn't shared his pictures with us yet. (I asked him not to put them on face book unless I approved them first so we don't have any of Larry  and I)
The last was the only zip that you had to step off the platform...the others had ramps you went down.  King Kong was big and it was a race....there are two lines.  I believe Larry let me win.  Our bet should not have mattered though because he won either way. ☺ (he came up with the bet...I had no say or at least didn't say) It was funny because every team was making bets with each other and one of the girls asked us what our bet was.  I just laughed and told her I couldn't share.

Another fun and adventurous day with fun people!

Tuesday

blurrrr

Sometimes when I think back on the days they are a blur to me.  I can't remember what happened for sure on Monday and Tues.  I do know we went to Costco to get some discount tickets for our Zip Line excursion.  I also know that the guys were suppose to go fishing on Tuesday but it got cancelled so we ended up snorkeling at Anni Beach.  I know when we went to rent the snorkel gear we treated ourselves to a shaved ice.  This trip we only got one shaved ice because the weather wasn't too hot.  Usually we get shaved ice a few times.
Whenever there was a "Kodak Moment" Carla and I took advantage of it.  We are getting pretty good at selfies with my camera.  I didn't take pictures at the beach because I really don't like pictures with my swim suit....however I was in my swim suit for a full day and very uncomfortable. (not my favorite. Carla and I even traded shirts because hers was bigger so we switched things up)
We went on a boat to the Fern Grotto.  We had heard so much about it and Carla had even heard it was the Prettiest Place on Earth.  I told her the lady that told her that needed to get around more.  It was pretty but not the prettiest place.  We compared it to every place we went to after that.
We learned to hula dance on the boat ride back.  I think Carla and I are naturals. (wink~wink)
We also visited a few waterfalls and saw lots of chickens.  Kauai has lots of chickens everywhere and this time around there were lots of baby chicks.
While we were at the waterfalls a guy next to us noticed Larry's Detroit Lion's shirt and asked us if we were from Detroit.  The guy and his wife were from Detroit.  Actually Larry and I were still at the car when this happened and Carla and Roger were off looking at the falls.  We visited with the young couple for quite a bit and Carla and Roger were heading back.  Carla has told me that no matter where we go I always run into someone I know so I thought I would act like we knew these people.  I told them quickly to just go along with us.  I motioned at Carla and Roger to come meet our friends that we have known forever.  Carla responded right away with "we don't go anywhere that Dawn and Larry don't know someone."  We all laughed and the truth was shared.  We never did run into anyone we knew this go around.
We enjoyed a dinner at the Dolphin Restaurant one of those nights.  Larry and I usually go to the Dolphin once during our stay.  It's another good place that is close to us.

Every day was filled with fun and relaxation.  I love vacations that are relaxing.

Monday

Kelsi's a Year Older

It's Kelsi's birthday and she is at the "legal age".  Not that being legal matters at all since she doesn't participate in the things you need to be 21 for.  I just know she thought it was exciting and had mentioned it.

Kelsi girl is a quiet, sweet girl.  She is happy and easy going and fits Braxton very well.  She is truly a blessing to our family.  I love watching her and her expressions.  Sometimes her expressions are louder than anything she says.

Kelsi is a cute mom and loves being Sadie's mom.  She is a wonderful little wife to Braxton and we all just love her.  I'm thankful for this cute girl and I love seeing Ropelato at the end of her name.  She's a keeper! ♥
