Food 4 Thought Friday ~ This week's questions:
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Breakfast ~ If you could build a cabin or second home, where would it be? I would say Bear Lake.  With the water being down it's risky taking the boat out around here.  I would love having a cabin that we could leave the boat at and go play on the weekends with our family.
Lunch ~ What is under your bed?  My blanket that Tonya made me for my 50th birthday.  I keep it there so I know where it's at for when I want it.
Dinner ~ How did you spend your day (or yesterday if answering in the morning).  I went bowling. (Carla picked me up and I was a sub for Sharon)Then I went with Carla to a store to get some fabric..she's a sewing maniac...she amazes me!  I came home, did laundry, edited some pictures and then ran to Costco to pick up some pictures that I had forgot to order with the SNAP pictures (I forgot one gal) only to find out that they didn't have them because I guess I forgot to complete my check out.  I went to lunch with Mal and had a good conversation about kindness.  I think I needed a little reminder. (sometimes we need to be reminded of things we usually do) Stopped at the store on the way home for pizza's and visited with Shelley Mark while there.  Got home in time to put the pizza's in and change to go to the Temple with Larry.  We did Sealings.  On the way out I was standing in a hall waiting for Larry and saw my cute niece who works there. (Alexi) Came home and Zaden was here and so after reading for a bit I helped him get ready for bed...he surrounded himself with stuffed animals.  I had a hard time sleeping all night because I thought it was too hot.

Midnight Snack ~  What is the last thing someone said to you that you will remember forever? The other day at lunch with my friends Tammy mentioned that they didn't act silly or take pictures until I joined them.  That made me feel good to know that I might have added a little fun to their lives.
Recipe of the Week ~ (instead of your recipe for life what is it just for the week?)  Look and Pray for ways to serve others!  Kindness makes everyone's day better.  Kindness changes hearts and lives!

Wednesday

Cupcakes with the Grands

Kamryn called me and asked if she could sleep over with Zaden and Ivy since we were doing cupcakes the next day.  Of course I let her.  I would have invited Justin's kids too but I knew that Mya had piano lessons in the morning.  It was fun having them over.  I let them run through the sprinklers about 8:00 pm because they wanted to and Larry left it up to me. Trichelle was still here and didn't seem to mind and so I said yes.  The only problem with that was that their underwear got wet and so they all had to go commando.  I washed their clothes so they would be clean and dry but they did have to wait until the morning.  We pulled out pj's that we have here and they were set.  They were wound up and silly.  Ivy and Kam made a scavenger hunt for me and did a few silly pranks...they made me smile.

My grands love pancakes and so I made pancakes.  I usually make "shaped" ones but today I just made really big ones.  I figured I had plenty of work ahead of me so I kept it simple.  The kids were thrilled with their BIG pancakes and only asked for one.   We got the kids that stayed over ready and it wasn't long before Mya and Parker joined them.  I had told Natalie that Macie was welcomed to stay too but I guess she needed a nap and so Macie just came in for hugs and kisses and I think she got a sucker.
I love making cupcakes with my grands during my birthday month.  They seem to enjoy it as well.  They are getting pretty good at doing things by themselves.  I still don't let them crack the eggs into the cake. (I don't like chasing egg shells)  I crack them and put them in a cup and they get to pour them in.  They pretty much do the rest.  They are all good at taking turns with each other and everyone is able to help with everything.
I laugh as I watch them.  The boys were less messy than the girls this year.  Zaden thought he was funny by filling up the entire paper liner with batter.  It was funny because he thought it was.  I scooped some out to fill another cup.
Licking the beaters is the fun part right?  Everyone except Zaden thinks so.  He pretended to lick a beater for a picture but he thinks the batter is disgusting since there are raw eggs in it. My grands crack me up and today I laughed out loud when I saw Zaden laying on the pool table moving his arms and legs like he would in the snow to make snow angels.  (they really aren't suppose to be on the pool table)  It's always fun when the grands come over!
While the cupcakes cooled we took a break and had some lunch.  I warmed chicken nuggets and french fries which were pretty tasty.  Everyone got a gogurt as well.  I think they liked it.
After the cupcakes were cool and the kids were full we frosted the cupcakes.  This year I thought it would be fun to make "fish" out of our cupcakes.  Of course that is just a suggestion and the kids can be creative however they want.  I loved watching them.  Some hurry and are so fast, while others take their time.  I think my grands are pretty creative and I can see that most of them have artistic abilities...actually all of them do.
They get to take their cupcakes home to share with their families.  They are always excited to show their parents the cupcakes they made.  I really do love our little tradition of making cupcakes together.
I like getting pictures with my cuties.  Each one of my little's is so unique and special and makes my heart smile so stinking big.  I love each little personality!
Sadie didn't come to make cupcakes but she did come later while her mommy and daddy went to the Temple. It was so fun having her.  Sadie is so happy and loves to smile.  She is a sweetie.  The only grand I didn't get to see today was the birthday girl.  Kevin was down doing laundry off and on all day  at my house but left Jordyn at the other grandma's....booo.....I think he should have brought her at least once.  It was a fun day though and the only thing that would have made it better was if Jordyn would have come over too.  Next year Macie and Jordyn will be big enough to come and that makes me happy! ☺

Tuesday

Jordyn Jo

This sweet thing is one year old today! That year went really fast.  I love this little so much.  She is such an easy baby.  I love when she smiles, she wrinkles her nose.  She is cautious, unlike her sister, and has taken a few steps but isn't ready to just go for it.  I love looking into her brown eyes.  Jordyn and Kamryn are the only grands with brown eyes and so it's different for me and I think they are so pretty.  I'm excited that Kevin and his family will be hanging around Hooper more while they are building their home and hopefully I will get to see this little one more often. (they are building up by Trichelle)  Funny...they lived close but seeing them only twice a month for Sunday dinner just isn't enough.  I love this little one...she makes my heart smile!

Monday

Birthday with the Hooper Honey's

For my birthday lunch I googled places to eat in Ogden.  I wanted to try something different and came across Zephyr Grill at the Front Runner Station in Ogden.  I thought it sounded fun since it's in a train car.  It was interesting and we saw some interesting people while we dined there but I liked it.  The food was yummy especially the fries.  The gal helping us was really nice and Lorraine was so sweet and gave her ride home because her shift was over and we were leaving.  I had thought I should offer her a ride but it came out of Lorraine's mouth first.  I'm glad that Lorraine did that.  The gal has only been here for 2 weeks.
These friends make me smile!  Tammy had brought a cute birthday table cloth and lots of fun accessories for me to wear.  It was mentioned that they never acted so silly until I joined them and that made me feel wonderful.  I love bringing out the fun in others.  My friends bring out the fun in me though too....it's not easy being silly around someone that is so serious.  My friends also bring out the good in me.  I listen to them talk about their lives and how they handle things and I just admire them all so much.  There was a lot of Happy Things shared today.  Kellie's daughter is finally "free" to date and move on with her life.  Lorraine and Crystal have daughters on missions and Tammy is leaving this week to pick up her son from his mission.  My family is doing great and so we were all up on the Roller Coaster of life today.

Today I wanted a picture of each friend individually.  With two of my friends passing recently I really cherish the pictures we have together.

I'm excited to celebrate another year of life.  This has been a great year.  I have had so much fun with my family and friends.  The years seem to fly by and my numbers are quickly moving up. (age)  The last five years have flown.  Life is good and I am truly blessed and very happy!  I'm thankful for all the good times and even for the hard times....so many lessons to learn always.

Saturday

SNAP Girl's Camp

This year our Theme for Girl's Camp was "The Wizard of Oz".  Stephanie was our camp director and did a fabulous job. I liked the Theme and how many parts of the story were used.  The cabin had rainbow strips hanging all around and rainbows on the walls.  The tables were covered with different colors and looked so bright and cheery.

Each day a different "theme" was presented by us leaders.  The first day Wanda talked about "Courage" at our devotional.  The second day Virginia talked about "Knowledge" and the last day I talked about "Love and Kindness".  Stephanie had other activities throughout the day to go along with the themes for the day.
I don't think I heard anyway say they were bored or that it wasn't fun.  There were crafts out at the tables all day so the girls could stay busy.  There were beads and coloring pages and thread to make bracelets.  Stephanie's 14 year old daughter came too and was so helpful and kind to the gals.  I loved listening to her help them and just talk to them...she is amazing and so darling.
One day we had a "photo booth" and I brought my Wizard of Oz costumes.  Most of the gals had fun dressing up and a few tried on all the costumes...it was a lot of fun and I had a few good laughs with everyone.
I thought it was appropriate that the leaders dress up in the costumes that we represented.  Mona Ruth was standing there afterwards looking left out...so we quickly dressed her up like Glinda.  Mona is great with the gals but mostly just does what they are doing and so sometimes I forget.  I didn't forget though when it was time for the leaders to clean up the cabin.  Last year cleaning the cabin wore me out and so I got up and started cleaning before breakfast with the help of Kathleen.  When I noticed Mona out painting with the girls the craft that I had brought for them to do while we finished the clean up I went and got her.  Having her help made the clean up go so much faster and was greatly appreciated.
The gals made magnets, covered journals, made leaf prints, decorated bags, painted nails, played bingo, made bracelets, colored lots of fun pages, made bead treasures and were busy, busy.
We went on a nature walk and collected all sorts of things.  Looking around the path makes the distance not seem to far...it was fun.  We did morning stretches, and sang songs.  Some put their feet in the creek and others swang and every day we laughed and hugged and had a good time.  We watched the Wizard of Oz and Enjoyed a really fun night with a live Band!
We had a Wacky Wizard of Oz Olympic which was fun.  The gals like competing and trying things.
We had lots of yummy food prepared for us and there were a few times some of the gals wore it.  It is so nice having camp cooks so we don't have to worry about taking the time to get the meals ready.  It is also fun having more people that we love with us.  Heidi and Leah served in the SNAP program for years and love being able to see the girls.
The Gals that were able to make it this year.  I love each and every one of these gals and feel like they are warming up to me too.  I missed Kaye and Heidi but Kaye has had shingles for months and was hurting too bad....she really, really wanted to come.  I am going to go see her and take her a little gift letting her know she was missed.

Davaleen's Story of Turning 50

I would like to dedicate my short story to my amazing girlfriends from Bonneville High. I call it " TURNING 50" Turning 50 somehow gave my girlfriends and I permission to be 10 again. When my girlfriends and I turned 50 our behavior and activities mysteriously changed. We somehow found our youth again. No teenage walk through the mall just to look at boys. Now when walking through the mall, it turned into silly dress up. How many silly outfits could we try on, how many silly props could we hold, how many silly poses could we make and how many silly pictures could we take.

Events and holidays became themed. We dressed up like our grandmothers, dressed up like witches, wearing Rudolph noses and bells and tinsel and nonstop laughter at how silly we looked. Our activities revolved around glitter and glue and cutting out fun colors of paper and ribbon. Making homemade gifts for family and friends.

No one worried who would be the designated driver.  Our beverages revolved around fancy ice, slices of lemon, bottled water with Crystal Light and every flavor of pop. Our parties consisted of bringing and eating every kind of cookies and candy and chips and brownies.

Instead of ways to escape from high school, we found reasons to go back and visit our high school. Instead of finding ways to escape from the high school cheerleaders, jocks, brainyacks and geeks (all social classes), we sought them out, tracked them down, made them our friends. We learned about their families and gave them our love and words of kindness and prayers and emotional support. Instead of finding ways to exclude them from our parties, we rearranged our family obligations and work schedules to be able to include as many of them as we could.

Instead of talking of far off dreams of the future, we spoke of fond memories of school and childhood.

Turning 50 was not filled with seriousness and obligations, turning 50 gave us the freedom to be the child and friend we always wanted to be.

Happy New Years to the best girlfriends ever, love you all.

Davaleen's Funeral

Today is the day that sweet Davaleen was put to rest.  My heart was heavy and more tears covered my cheeks.  I was doing okay this morning while I was thinking about what I might say at the funeral and then my friend, Cindy sent me a text saying: "Love You, Dawn".  The love I felt from that text started the tears and I fought them the rest of the day.  I received another text from Kellie during the funeral that said: "thinking of you today.  I hope you will have peace and comfort! Love You!"  Those simple acts of kindness made a big impact on me....they meant so much and did bring me comfort!

I was privileged to give the opening prayer for the Funeral Services.  My heart was full and I just decided to let the spirit guide my words so I'm not sure what was said but I felt peace afterwards.  Jayhmie read the obituary and added to it and said a few of her own thoughts.  Tiffany, Davaleen's daughter expressed her love for her mom and said multiple times that Dave was a good mom and wonderful grandmother.  A cute gal that I believe called Dave, Momma Dave read a poem that sounded like she wrote it...it was beautiful.  At that time they opened it up to family and friends to share their memories or feelings.  I had a "feeling" a few days earlier that they were going to do that and knew that I needed to step up and share my feelings even though I was asked to also say a prayer.  I had talked to Jodi and Kathy about it and we all thought that we needed to share how wonderful Dave was.  When they first opened it up to everyone Dave's friend, James, got up. (he was very involved in the 48 Film Festival we helped Dave with...he's great)  He shared some nice things about Davaleen and expressed his love for her.  Everyone sat still waiting for someone else to make the move and so Jodi did.  Jodi shared some fun memories of Dave including their first lunch.  She told of how Davaleen had shared with Jodi her gratitude for letting her join in on their fun and how it literally saved her life.  Jodi also shared a fun assignment Davaleen had wrote about turning 50....everything Jodi shared was perfect and described how talented, fun and kind Davaleen was.  I jumped up next and shared how Davaleen had came to the early morning prayer for Jared and passed out water to everyone going to help search for him.  I also shared some of the same feelings I expressed in my earlier post.  Losing Davaleen has left my heart feeling a little empty.  Jolene, the gal who wrote the song about Angels also shared her experience with Davaleen.  I thought everything was perfect. They shared the 5 minute film that Davaleen had made for the 48 hour film festival called Mission by Choice...it made people smile and laugh and lightened the air.  Then the "Sista's" sang the beautiful song....that wasn't so perfect!  We sounded pretty good when we practiced but for some reason the music wasn't loud enough and neither were our Strong Singers.....the words were beautiful though and I think that's what matters most.  Kathy gave the closing prayer.  I know that Davaleen was pleased with her service, I sure was.

A few of us carpooled to the Cemetery and Kathy's hubby dedicated the grave.  The day was beautiful and everything went well.  We put on our happy faces and continued on.

We were the ones in Davaleen's 48 Hour Film Festival and also the ones that participated in her funeral services...

I was proud of Patrick.  He conducted the funeral service and did a great job.  He was so thankful for everyone's help and input.  My prayers will continue for Dave's kids...they are going to need some extra help and I know they will get it.

Jayhmie somehow pulled off getting Davaleen's ward (branch) to do a family dinner afterwards.  I know she did that after leaving the Mortuary on Wednesday because we had talked about doing it but knew it would be too stressful that late.  We were all invited but had already decided to go to lunch together.  We chose to go to El'Matador since that is where Davaleen had first had lunch with Jodi and the others.  We got the same table....and I sat where Dave had sat except for the picture.  I made Jodi trade me places since I think the smaller people should be closest to the camera.

Sometimes I think it's hard to be happy when you feel so sad.  We just lost a dear friend and I almost feel guilty for Carrying On!  But...that is what we have to do and so we do!
Cheers to Friendship and Cheers to Davaleen!
I posted this picture simply because it makes me laugh and laughing makes me happy.
