Monday

It's the thought that counts!

Larry and I had just left the house when I got this text: "Just left the worst Christmas present ever at your house! It is bread that rose into the rack above it in the oven which was bad enough. The kids put a present on it in the car! Merry flat Christmas to you!"  Larry and I burst out laughing just imagining this.  We laughed even harder when we got home to see our Christmas gift!  The big boys even played with it before we opened it up.  I had to grab the camera because this was the best and most perfect gift!  It really is the thought that counts!

I thought about how I would have reacted had that been me baking and giving the bread.  I would have been so stressed.....maybe said a few things I shouldn't and possibly even cried.  I don't think I would have taken the bread but I am so glad this friend reacted the way she did.  What an example to me and to our family!  The bread was delicious and our day was enlightened because of it!  Thank You Dear Friend for loving us this much.....we all love you too!
I texted her and told her thanks and how it made our day.  She responded with: "I'm glad!  I almost just turned around and came home but then I knew of all my friends you guys would laugh with me. Merry Christmas".  We did just that!  Now that is Christmas!

Sunday

Family Party

We had our family Christmas Party on Sunday the 23rd this year since Ivy and Zaden would be with their dads on Christmas Eve.  (we're flexible like that)  I love our family party.....of course I do.....I love as much time with my family as possible.  I made Turkey and all the trimmings and we used my China.  Funny but when I got married every girl had to have China.....so silly since it is seldom used.  I think the kids like it though....I know I loved using my mom's China every Thanksgiving when we were little. (I did forget the table cloths...oops)

At our family party the kids all get to exchange gifts.  We rotate names every year and each child gets to buy for one sibling (or when they marry and couples gift)  We had to do it that way because when the kids were little I couldn't afford for them all to buy for each other.  This year they all used their own money and that was nice!  The "littles" (grands) exchange with each other and it is such a fun night.  We also played some Christmas Bingo and everyone won a present to open.  Simple but fun!

It has to be simple or it would be too stressful and Christmas shouldn't be stressful....it should be fun and enjoyable.  This year it was perfect in my opinion.  I enjoyed the whole month of December and never really felt stressed. (woohoo!)
I love having everyone together.  I also think it's cool that everyone gets along so well and really likes each other.  That makes me one Happy Mommy!
We did a lot of hugging this year when gifts were exchanged.  It was kind of funny how that turned out.  My camera was delaying and so the hugs were longer or given again.  I'm glad it worked out this way.  Oh my crud it makes my heart so happy!

I absolutely love the ones that call me momma  and gramma and sweetheart!

A family party is such a simple thing but also such a big thing.  It makes us closer and happier.
I just saw a picture of our Christmas Tree and it reminded me of Julie's comment.  She just laughed and said: "I love your tree....Dawn it so reminds me of you....it bursts and makes me smile"  That comment made me smile.  I like my tree too.....Larry thought it was too much....it could have been more....the kids could have put their ornaments on it.  I am not sure why they didn't but I loved it the way it was....bursting with happiness. haha  Oh and at our family party I give the kids a new ornament.  This year it was a clear one with a vinyl Mickey Mouse on it.  I try to give ornaments that go along with our Christmas so the kids will remember.  (just started doing that a few years ago)

Everyone is so wonderful and great.  I love them all more than I ever thought possible.  These people are my everything!!!  They are the reason I am how I am!

Friday

Exchanging.....

Since Mal's birthday we haven't made time to get together.  I guess we all thought that since we met 3 times in September that was enough for awhile.  Finally today Mal, Kathy and I did get together so we could exchange Christmas Gifts and see each other again.  We had a cute little visitor today.  Kathy brought her cute little grand, Ryder with her today.  I bring my grands sometimes too and it just makes me remember when it use to be our own kids that were coming to lunch with us many years ago.  So many fun memories with these two friends.  I absolutely love them so much.  (Kathy took the pic because she is tired of my camera)

Wednesday

Ho Ho Ho

Today Kellie and I went to lunch because we could.  We had wanted to have a get together with our other friends but no one else felt like they could come.....not feeling well, stressed, still too much shopping to do.  Kellie and I decided we needed a break from all the responsibilities for a little bit. I had such a great time.  I enjoy Kellie so much.  We talked but we also laughed......we laughed a lot.

When we were being seated to our table I heard someone yell (it was a yell)......."Dawn".  The people around all went silent and it was easy to spot Kathy O waving at me from the half wall. (we went to the Olive Garden)  Ammon and his wife were trying to hide.....they were a little embarrassed.  I wasn't....in fact I was proud to be the "Dawn" being hollered at. ;) hahaha  Kathy always makes my day.  She's so fun.

Kellie & I put our hats on and went over to their table to see if Ammon would like his picture taken with us. (trying to embarrass him just a little bit more)  He didn't ......I think he was trying to pretend we weren't really there.  MeChel thought we were funny and took our picture.  However I think she took our picture so we wouldn't try to get by her.  Young people get so embarrassed but I just think life is too short to be so serious.  I like making others smile and times like this just happen to get that result.

I am thankful for Kellie and glad that she wanted to spend a little time relaxing with me today.  We missed the others but really enjoyed ourselves.

Hey Rudolph......

My dear friend Judy loves to entertain and had a few of us gals over for dinner last night.  She "decks" her halls so beautifully and it was totally wonderful!
There was Tammy......Oh how I love Tammy.  She is so inspiring and so in tune with the "spirit" and has so much to offer each of us.  What a blessing she is in my life.  I have leaned on Tammy more than once and she totally understands me and never judges and I have also been there for her through her trials.  It's so nice having a friend like Tammy. We cry together and also laugh our bums off.
and Teresa.....not a coincident that Teresa and I got to know each other.  Not a coincident that Teresa met Judy from KSL when she bought a bed from her and that they reunited at a funeral we were all at. Not a coincident that she met Tammy tonight either.  I love how we are guided and directed in our lives....it was obvious tonight.
Judy is one of my "angel friends".  She has always loved me and treated me so kindly.  Judy is so positive and kind and would do anything for anyone.  She is absolutely amazing and a blessing from Heaven.
And there was me.....I am here to help others feel loved and to enjoy life! I hope I do that!
I feel honored to have been invited to enjoy these ladies tonight.  We started at 6:30 pm and I left close to 1:00 am.  At one point I got a text saying I had a visitor at my house for me and was I going to be home soon?  I thought I might.  That was around 10:00 but Judy wasn't in a hurry for us to leave and told me to ask them to call or come back.  I think they are coming by later.  I didn't want to miss the conversation we were having.....it was so inspiring and very spiritual, awesome and enlightening.
It was such a great night and was meant to be.  All of us needed each other tonight and we are suppose to all be friends and help each other.  It's funny to me how we are all needed in different ways and guided to those we need.  What a blessing friends are!
The meal was wonderful but these get togethers are really never about the food.  Food is the excuse to get together.  It's what happens before and after the meal that is the real reason for being together.

I absolutely love my friends.  The ones I spent so much time with last night and all of my friends everywhere.  I don't always blog or mention the ones that I don't get pictures with or go to lunch with but they are just as important to me.  I cherish each and every friend of mine.  Some I have known and loved for years and others I have just met.....regardless of when any of them have come into my life I am glad they are there.  I just need friends!  I never really knew how blessed I have been but others point it out to me and I realize they are right.....I have a lot of friends.  I thank Heavenly Father all the time for blessing me abundance!
I am a happy girl and so very, very blessed!

Monday

Ropelato Christmas Party

I was in charge of the Family Christmas Party this year and must say that it was fun once again.  Larry and I decided to have it at the Church this year and I am glad we did.  I didn't stress about my house being cleaned and didn't have to stress later about cleaning it again.  The church was a great idea.  we pulled a few curtains to make the room where we met smaller and cozier....it worked great!
I was stressing thinking about organizing everything and was reminded by a cute niece that I have plenty of help.  My mind hadn't switched gears yet or had switched back & was somewhere else or something but once she reminded me of that and I made some assignments everything fell into place and went well.  I didn't stress much at all today.  Julie and Kevin organized the story of the Nativity and the others helped and it turned out cute.  As I watched this year my mind reflected back to when my kids & nephews & nieces were the kids in the play and now it is their kids.  Couldn't help but smile!  So glad for memories and family traditions.
I tried taking pictures of everyone so that those that couldn't make it and live out of town could see.  I know Shari enjoys seeing what's going on.  I got counting later of all those missing and we had 27 that weren't here.  I thought the majority was here but that's still a lot missing.  I guess at this point....with the families so big we are not going to always have everyone.  So, we will enjoy those that we do have....and we did!

I have always loved the Ropelato family and have felt totally loved and accepted by everyone.  It's a great family to belong to.  Everyone cares about each other and would do anything to help another out.  I just really like them all.  I love seeing it grow and the next generation is just as great.

I love getting together and having my kids interact and know their cousins, aunts, and uncles too.  Family has always been so much to me and I wanted it to be the same way for my kids.  Larry's mom and dad should be proud of what they started.  (I know they are)
It's funny that years ago I gave dad a recipe for Lasagna and he is now the Lasagna Specialist.  He has improved the recipe a few times and so he gets to make it every year for everyone.  He said he doesn't mind and I am glad because when he stops doing it I think it will fall back on me.....and I know it won't be as good.  He's got it down perfection......yummy perfection!

I love watching my nieces and nephews as parents.  It's so fun seeing a part of them in each of their kids....again my memory goes back in time and enjoys itself.

It's so fun just visiting and being together since that doesn't happen often with the growing families.  Time flies....you know that right?  I remember not long ago I was the new bride and mom. Grandma & Grandpa Lowe (Larry's mom's parents) were the ones responsible and enjoying their posterity.  I am glad that they got this started......

So really at our party we eat.  We eat Lasagna....because we're Italian.  We visit and enjoy one another.  The kids run and play and make memories.  Then we have the kids act out the nativity.  It's important to our family for the children to know why we have Christmas.  So.....we do this every year.

I think the "littles" enjoy dressing up and being a part of the play.  Sometimes we have lots of angels.  Our wise men are girls as well as our shepherds and it never matters.  It use to be that the boys out numbered the girls but that is not the case with the younger ones.....we have lots more girls.....who make nice looking shepherds, inn keepers, and wise men.

Then when we can....which is most of the time we invite Santa to visit us.  I like having Santa be a part of our parties too because he is a great symbol of Christmas....and fun!  Most of the kids  thought he was great this year.  I think there was only one that cried and she was little.  My grands liked him.

Santa brings the kids socks......the kids seem to like it.  Parker even went back and showed Santa the socks he just brought him....he was hoping for a bow but maybe on Christmas day he will get that.
Kimi and Jared aren't as crazy about Santa but do like getting a gift so they play along.
I love Santa.....I have always loved Santa.  My first memory of Santa is when I was just little.....probably around 3 and someone knocked on our door and when I went to open it Santa Claus came in.  I asked Santa for a baby doll....and I didn't care what kind as long as I got a baby.  That year I got a cute Pebbles doll from the Flintstones Cartoon.  I loved that cute baby doll.  Tonya and I were talking at Thanksgiving and she remembers that doll too.  I kept my dolls and played with them for years.  Santa just makes me smile!
Kevin was my helper in finding Santa this year.....I think he did good.  Santa had a good time and I believe we will see this "helper" again in the years to come.
After Santa made his appearance we visited more and anyone that wanted to played the M&M game.  It was only the kids playing the M M game.  To play the game you roll a die and when it rolls on the number that you selected you get to suck up M&M's through a straw and drop them in your bowl until someone else rolls that number. (we pick 2 numbers)  The kids had a good time and everyone had plenty of M&M's to eat.  I think Haylie won or came in 2nd to Jared and so I gave her a big "sucker" for sucking the most M&M's.
After a few blinks we'll be doing this again.
