We Have a Runner!

Jared had a track meet this morning and since Larry wasn't working we decided to go to it.  It was past Smith Field so it was going to be a day long deal.  Jared was excited and anxious.  Today he was running a relay race and was the third receiver.  His race was way late in the day.  We had been there for hours. The first runner out was fast but had a terrible pass.  He practically stopped before passing the baton.  I'm not sure if it's because the second runner didn't start running or what but I do know it was terrible and put the second runner way behind the other teams.  Jared missed his pass....he took off and was out of the passing lane before he got the baton.  Larry and I felt so bad for him and we talked about learning from the experience.  Now he will know exactly what arrow to step back from and what arrows to stay between.  I made sure Jared knew that his pass wasn't the only bad one...it just wasn't a good day for the entire team!  The fourth receiver was the only one that didn't mess up. haha  It was fun watching the other events and Larry and I enjoyed ourselves.

Jared enjoys being involved in track.  He is a fast runner and for the most part only has to worry about improving himself.  He likes doing the long jump too.  He competes in different events at different meets but he enjoys it all.

Before going home, Larry went to help Kevin with the playground that Santa brought the girls.  Julie's brothers and Braxton were there helping when we got there.  Jaydan came before we left.  It was a big project and we couldn't stay long because we had a reception we needed to go to.  Larry was still a big help....they all were.  Julie text me a picture later that night and it was almost done!  If the little ones only knew all that parents go through to make their life enjoyable and fun.

Friday

American Mothers Luncheon

Jodi posted the American Mothers Luncheon on Facebook and I thought it looked like a really good event to attend.  I wasn't disappointed.  The theme was "Everything Glitters".  Aleisha McDaniel, a momma blogger spoke and was so cute and fun.  Two of the "Six Sisters" also spoke.  They told a little about their blog and how it's their job now. The six sisters have a blog and have published a few cook books.  They started their blog to stay in touch with each other and it snowballed from there.

All the speakers spoke of finding the glitter in our own lives.  We have to look for it because it's there.  (gratitude and finding the positive)  "We need to watch with glittering eyes the whole world around us...because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places." "Finding the glitter.....You never know when it's going to pop up!"

5 Ways to Find the Glitter
1. LAUGH....remember to laugh, especially at yourself.
2. SERVE...the perfect way to forget your troubles.
3. SCHEDULE QUALITY TIME TOGETHER...what your family wants is TIME!
4. TAKE PICTURES...even on the hard days!
5. DON'T COMPARE...your worst day doesn't stand a chance against someone's best day.

Great advice and simple enough to do!
I invited my sweet friend, Barbie to go with me today.  I knew I would be meeting Davaleen and Jodi there but felt impressed to call and invite Barbie.  I was really glad that she was able to come with me.  I think the timing was perfect for her.  We all need a little "charge" once in awhile.

What a fun day.....Good Food....Great Speakers....and Wonderful Friends to share it with! ♥

Goodies and Grandparents

Kamryn's school had a Goodies and Grandparents morning.  They served cinnamon rolls and we bought us some chocolate milk.  I went and picked Kamryn up from the day care and took her to the school.  When we got there we saw her other grandma and cousin.  I think Lynette must have picked up Brexton.  We got our rolls and sat by them.  Some of the grandparents were reading books with their grands but we just visited.  I went with Kamryn to her class and found out that a friend of mine, Lorna Myer is her teacher.  It was fun spending a little time with Kamryn. I'm glad that the schools do things like this.  Going today brought back many memories of the Books and Breakfast's we use to do at Hooper Elementary.

Food 4 Thought Friday ~ This week's questions:
♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

Breakfast ~ What is your current guilty pleasure? I'd have to say that pedicures are my guilty pleasure right now.  I love them and treat myself to them about every 6 weeks.  I would go more often but then I would feel even more guilty.  Before pedicures were readily available I use to have my nails done.  That too was a guilty pleasure since I was busy raising my little family.  I stopped having my nails done because I had been spoiled by my friend who did them and haven't found anyone else that does them as well.

Lunch ~  What is the weirdest/worst thing you have eaten? Larry and I went to Micronesia with some friends.  We went to lunch one day and I ordered a hamburger and I am pretty sure it was not beef.  (we think it might have been dog...ewwww) The thought of it still gags me. (puke)  Growing up my mom cooked some fish one time that was seriously disgusting...the thought of that also makes me want to puke.  I even wrote an essay about the yucky fish for a school assignment.

Dinner ~
What is something you wish you wouldn't have done? I'm going to be completely honest.  I was staying at my friends house  when I was young.  I might have been jr. high but maybe just 5th or 6th grade.  Anyway she found her friends cigarettes in her drawer and was going to throw them away but I stopped her and told her that we should smoke them.  I can't believe I did that because I knew it was wrong. In fact I knew better than to inhale them because I didn't want to ruin my lungs.  I think I thought we would be cool if we held them and acted all grown up.  The sad thing about this is that my friend ended up being a smoker for a long time.  Thank goodness she stopped.  I always felt responsible for her choice.

Midnight Snack ~ Name some of your time saving tricks? I like to make extra dinner so that we can have left overs a few times a week.  Cooking isn't my favorite thing to do...or at least coming up with what to cook..  I also do laundry every day early in the morning.  Doing one or two loads a day keeps me up on that.  I prefer getting up early and getting a few things done right off the bat...it seems that the longer I wait to start the less I do.  Pick up around the house and don't worry about always cleaning everything good.  I use to dust and mop every day and guess what I still could but do it a lot less often now.  NObody has noticed or mentioned it....saves a lot of time!

Recipe of the Week ~ (instead of your recipe for life what is it just for the week?) Smile through the storms in your life.  There are times that we just don't feel like smiling...like when we are sick or have things that are pressing on our minds.  Force yourself to Smile anyway and it really does make those times more bearable.  Smile....Be Happy! ♥

Thursday

Who let the Dogs Out?

The Deputy's and the K-9 unit came to our SNAP tonight and told us all about the dogs that these two use.  It was so educational and the participants asked a lot of really good questions.  I learned that dogs can smell around 30 scents at the same time.  That's why it's so hard to disguise drugs in different odors.  I'm not sure how anyone figured out how a dog could smell that good but that's what we were told.

The light dog is Cody and used to find drugs.  His favorite toy is a ball and that's how he was trained.  They use their favorite toys and then add the different smells with them.  The striped dog had a cool name but I forgot it.  He is used to stop and find criminals.  He will only bite if he is told but will bark.  When someone is scared their heart pumps harder and they sweat more. They can't help it and that makes it easier for the dogs to find them quickly.

It was really neat learning about the dogs and all they do.  I think all the participants really enjoyed tonight.

Ivy's Program

The Fourth Grade Students at Ivy's school did a program about Utah.  The program was Thursday night at 6:30 and so I wasn't going to be able to make it since I have SNAP.  Ivy called me and told me that they were performing for the other students in the afternoon and that I could come and watch her then.  Of course I had to go since she called. I was glad I didn't have anything else planned.  The program was so good.  I got teary eyed a few times. (I know that surprises you..if you know me)  The talked about the Indians...yes Indians...not Native Americans. (we have a Sister missionary serving her that corrected one of my kids for referring to her as an Indian)  They talked about the pioneers and how they settled this area.  They sang so loud and good.  The songs were awesome.  The kids that had parts were wonderful....at least the ones I could understand.  Half of them spoke in Spanish since this school teaches English and Spanish all day.  It's fun hearing the kids rattle off their parts.  I was proud of Ivy and she did her part so well.  It was in English so I understood.  I think she was a little excited that I was able to some watch her.  I was really excited too.  Larry went to the night program with Trichelle, TJ and Zaden.  The girls makes me smile.  I really can't believe how big she is getting!

when I'm 90

Boots and Mary and Mine and Carla's hero's!  Mary is 90 and Boots is right behind her.  These two are so classy, smart, witty, and young at heart!  They bowl every week and I think they both golf when the weather is good.  I think that is the secret to staying young....being active!  Carla and I have vowed with each other that we are going to continue to bowl until we are 90.

I admire Mary and Boots and love them to pieces.  The make me smile every week when I see them.  They both asked me today at different times if they could nominate me to be the President of this bowling league.  It made me feel good but I do not want that responsibility at all.  I go bowling for the fun of it.  I don't pay attention to the league rules and don't want to.  I'm happy just being on a team and visiting with everyone!

When I'm 90 (if I live that long) I want to be like these two women!  I might need to get a heavier ball though because I think they both bowl with a heavier ball than mine...they are not wimps! I seriously admire them both!
